How to read a quarterly research update
Separate what changed in the world from what changed in the thesis—and what did not change at all.
Begin with the delta
A useful update should not make the reader reconstruct the prior view. It should state which assumptions changed, what new evidence arrived, and whether the conclusion moved as a result.
That makes continuity visible and reduces the temptation to confuse a new narrative with a new fact pattern.
Look for disconfirming evidence
Research earns trust when it documents evidence against the thesis with the same care as evidence that supports it.
